Illegal Army Chief, Illegal
President General Musharraf’s Illegal Action
General
Musharraf has sacked Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan
Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for misuse of authority.
The crimes General Musharraf has committed
since he illegally took over Pakistan on October 12, 1999 are
far severer than the charges he has leveled against Justice
Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Justice Chaudhry was an exemplary judge who
created serious legal challenges for general Musharraf’s
fraudulent rule through his decisions, activism, statements and
the working mechanism he adopted to clear up new and old cases
on the files of Supreme Court of Pakistan.
His landmark decision on Steel Mill’s case
was enough to motivate the government to weave the web around
Justice Chaudhry to sack him.
In Steal Mill case and several other cases,
Justice Chaudhry wrote judgments which pointed finger towards
Shaukat Aziz as the key person behind underhand deals. Shaukat
Aziz, known as smooth operator, probably has played the key role
in removal of Justice Chaudhry.
Justice Chaudhry started his legal career in
1974 when he joined the bar. During his legal career he worked
as Advocate of the High Court, Advocate of the Supreme Court,
Advocate general of Balochistan, Additional Judge of Balochistan
High Court. Besides working as Judge High Court, he discharged
duties as Banking Judge, Judge Special Court for Speedy Trials,
Judge Customs Appellate Courts as well as Company Judge.
Justice Chaudhry also served as President of
High Court Bar Association, Quetta, and was elected twice as
Member, Bar Council. Later, he was appointed as
Chairman, Balochistan Local Council Election Authority in 1992
and thereafter for second term in 1998. He also worked as
Chairman, Provincial Review Board for the province of
Balochistan. He was twice appointed as Chairman, Pakistan Red
Crescent Society, Balochistan. At present, Justice Iftikhar is
also functioning as Chairman, Enrollment Committee of Pakistan
Bar Council and as Chairman, Supreme Court Building Committee.
He was appointed as Chief Justice High Court of Balochistan on
April 1999. For his services and seniority he was elevated to
the Supreme Court on February 4, 2004. He was appointed as Chief
Justice of Pakistan on June 30, 2005 by General Musharraf.
Other than his decisions on
various cases pointing fingers to Shaukat Aziz in underhand
deals lately, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was becoming a
serious threat for Musharraf junta. He particularly, questioned
and challenged Musharraf junta’s authority on missing Pakistanis
cases.
Justice Iftikhar Muhammad
Chaudhry has done remarkable job during one year and nine
months. His land mark and courageous decisions will remain a
shinning example for future judges who would like to uphold
justice, rule of law and constitution of Pakistan.
If anyone needs to be removed
from office it is general Musharraf not Justice Iftikhar
Muhammad Chaudhry.
